Seed Grant Awardee Julie Schneider, PhD, recruiting participants for study on how classroom noise impacts children’s learning

Our Seed Grant awardees Julie Schneider PhD and Jennie Grammer PhD are looking for children ages 7-12 and their parents to participate in a study exploring how everyday background noise levels impact learning in classroom-like settings.

What’s involved:

  • A visit to UCLA where your child will complete short tasks measuring vocabulary, literacy, non-verbal intelligence, and sensitivity to noise
  • EEG brainwave recording (non-invasive, safe, and kids get to see their own brainwaves!)
  • Tasks related to literacy, language learning, and attention performed with varying levels of background noise, all within safe hearing limits
  • Parents complete a brief questionnaire about their child and home environment
